Question by Ronald: what arethe efects of exposure to propylene glycol?
What are the effects of long term exposure to propylene glycol? I just started using E-CIGS and some of the hazards are nicotine and glycol. I really like my E-cig and I use it all the time. I was even able to quit analog cigarettes. Any help in my search will be appreciated.

I was just searching for more info as well…

No long term, unbiased testing has been conducted, as far as use of propylene glycol (PG) in e-cigs … yet.

Right now it is known that continued long term use WILL dry out your throat/nasal passages (the PG vapor absorbs moisture and gives off moisture – it is also used to regulate humidity in humidors and maintain moisture in foods, etc, etc).

Long term use of PG WILL also metabolize to lactic acid and MAY cause leg cramping (lactic acid will also cause runners’ legs to cramp up).

PG MAY irritate your throat as well. Some people have reported very slight “allergic reactions” from long term use … usually drinking some water and PUTTING DOWN the e-cig for a while (real easy to just keep puffin’ away) will solve the prob.

PG is known to have very low toxicity levels, however. Extensive research has been done in the 40′s and it IS and has been approved by the FDA for use in many products.

Vegetable glycerin (VG) can also be used … but I don’t trust it … it DOES convert to toxic acrolein at temps above 300C … which certain points of the atomizer DO reach, each and every time. Granted there is acrolein in tobacco smoke, as well, and even though it IS toxic, it is NOT carcinogenic.

VG is liked b/c it produces bigger vapor clouds and has a sweeter taste to it. PG is reported to have a better “throat hit” … the choice is yours.

E-cigs = nicotine, PG and/or VG, natural and/or artificial flavor(s).

Tobacco Cigarettes = nicotine, carbon monoxide, many known cancerous and toxic elements, 1000′s of other chemicals … yellow teeth, clothes that smell bad, no thanks.
